Chapter 7

Jimmy and Cole had ridden their bikes to the pool at the far side of their housing addition. It was several blocks from the pool they usually used, and they wouldn't know many, if any, of the people there. Judy had told them of this task and that she would have a 'watcher' there. They were to exchange swimming trunks. That did not seem too bad, kind of yucky, but doable. But then she added, that they had to deposit their trunks in leaf catchers on opposite sides of the pool (they could use the deep end). The L-shaped pool was deep on one side of the "L" and shallow on the other. They'd be caught for sure if they used the shallow side.

They parked their bikes and used the key card to enter the gates. Mostly young kids were there. Jimmy and Cole already had their suits on, but checked the dressing area for a safe refuge just in case it was needed. As a caution they each placed a beach towel I the dressing area, and hopefully they would not get taken.

Placing more towels on chairs near the pool they entered in the deep side and planned to get it over with this task fast. Together they located the leaf catcher devises, and examined how to hide the suits but still easily access them.

Gathering courage Cole swam to the other side. They nodded at each other and did their best to be nonchalant as they slipped off the suits. They wore suits loosely tied so they could drop off. Mostly young kids were there, who all stayed o n the shallow side, so they were not being crowded.

Each then slipped along the side of the pool. They were nervous being so possibly publicly exposed as they inched around in their naked state.

They passed each other, but then Cole had to delay. A group had gathered near the leaf catcher he was headed towards. Jimmy kept going and arrived finally where Cole's suit was hidden. As he got there he saw David. David told him his mother was cleaning a nearby house and he had been allowed to go swimming. Unfortunately, the sly little David figured out Jimmy was naked. When Jimmy reached in the leaf catcher to retrieve the suit, David grabbed it and backed away from Jimmy. Since David was not in the pool, Jimmy could not chase him. David figured out what was up and beat Cole to the other suit.

Now Jimmy and Cole were in the pool naked, with no suits to retrieve and put on. They had to plan a way to get to their towels, but that was nearer the shallow area. They couldn't yell their plight to David. They were at his mercy.

David saw them and pushed the chair holding the towels far away from the pool edge such that they would have to get out to reach them. David was clearly taking advantage of their plight.

David then just took the towels and suits and simply walked away and out of the area. They saw David with their towels bundled under his arm as he headed down the block.

"What are we to do?" They didn't utter, just each had a dismayed look on their face.

As they approached the shallow area, they were spotted. A little girl shouted, "Mommy, those boys are naked." The lifeguard took note and said, "Hey, you two, come here!"

Jimmy and Cole could not be caught, as their mother's would cancel the Disney trip.

They quickly exited the pool, baring all to those around, ran to the dressing room, grabbed their stashed towels, and exited to their bikes and wearing just towels, and biked off before the lifeguard could stop them.

Biking in just a towel was bad, but no one could tell that was all they had. They made it to Cole's house. His parents were out. They first took sanctuary in the tree house. Jimmy would borrow some of Cole's clothes and go home. They had not yet had a successful task carried out. The next task was to be at the beach. They knew that would be bad.

Jimmy's mom told him later that day. "I received an email. It seems two boys; aged 10 or less went naked at the west side pool today. I'm sure glad you never go there with such ruffamuggins". Jimmy said, "Yes, we never go there, it is too far away anyway." Then he added "If the boys were not identified, how did they know they were 10?" Jimmy's mom replied, "There were some mothers' there, they know about boys age characteristics-you know too, don't be silly." For some reason Jimmy was not comforted.
