grade such that by Middle School, the girls attending the program were
in the
11 to 13 years old range while the boys are 14 to 16 years in age. This
arrangement allowed the intellectually and emotionally inferior boys
keep up
with the program while still providing challenges for the girls.
It was also acknowledged that boys
needed a
good amount of guidance and nearly constant supervision in their
emotional,
disciplinary and sexual development so a Male Development Program (MDP)
was introduced
to better condition the boys for school. The school system could not
afford the
salaried staff to carry out every aspect of the program, so it was
decided to
enlist the assistance of the female students to help with the program.
This fit
in well with the educational system’s goals to provide girls with more
challenging opportunities to better prepare them for their future
leadership
positions.
In its Middle School form, MDP had the
girls taking on responsibilities in several areas according to grade.
Seventh
grade girls acted as Locker Room Monitors, eighth grade girls were
disciplinarians and the ninth grade girls were supervisors and student
judges
to make sure all the school rules were carried out properly.
There were many rules especially
designed
to keep boys in line. For the boys’ locker room, these rules were
simple:
Chastity, Cleanliness and Compliance.
Under the Compliance Rule, boys were to
obey all orders given to them by the monitors. Failure to comply with a
girl’s
order meant punishment by the disciplinarians.
Under the Cleanliness Rule, boys were
to
shower completely after their PE. The monitors did a cleanliness
inspection on
each boy as he came out of the shower including making sure that his

aspects
