Richard Mills could
never resist poking fun at his 10 year old little sister’s best friend
Paula with her bright red hair. This always annoyed her, but to Richard
it was just a bit of banter and, anyway, he found it fun to rile her.
When the parents go away for the weekend to celebrate their wedding
anniversary, they agree Richard and his sister Reanna can have their
best friends staying for a sleepover. Mrs Mills engages Paula’s 19 year
old sister Kylie to look after them.

With my German Pen Pal

was visiting Germany for a two week summer break to experience their
different culture. He was staying with his pen pal, 12 year old Karl
Brunner, his mum and dad, together with Karl’s twin sister Klara.
Overall, he really enjoyed his trip, but there were parts of German
culture which proved somewhat embarrassing.

The Talk

Rita Madeley had
recently given her 10 year old daughter Lucy ‘The Talk’. She had
already spoken to her older sister, 12 year old Brenda, about the birds
and the bees, but both had many questions about boy parts. With
no brothers, the specific details went unanswered. Her neighbour June
Bryant offered to fill in their lack of knowledge. When she orders her
very modest 12 year old son Richard to join his 10 year old brother
Freddie in the bathroom so she could bath them together, he was
appalled his mother would see him naked for the first time in three
years, but he had no idea what else was in store for him that night.

Jane Gets The Experience She Needs

up to her 12th birthday and, with the school summer holidays also
looming, she was thinking of ways to earn some money to help her single
mother out. Jane was a practical girl with a lot of common sense, but
no experience. Her friend Jess suggested babysitting, just like she
did. It sounded fun, especially bathing the boys, but where was Jane
going to get some experience? Her mother, with the help of a near
neighbour and her two lads, solved this dilemma.

Fun at Harrington Lake

12 year old Tyson
Richards always loved it when his mum took him and his year older
brother Taylor swimming at Harrington Lake. The summer break was almost
over and it would be back to school the following week, so Mrs Richards
thought the boys would like a day at the lake. Taylor had already
arranged to go out with friends, but his mum agreed to take Tyson on
his own. Since there was plenty of room in the car, Mrs Richards asked
their new neighbour’s girls, 12 year old Alanna and her year younger
sister Rebecca, if they would like to join Tyson. As they were driving
to the lake, Tyson suddenly had a horrible thought. His brother had
always skinny dipped at the lake, and he didn’t want to look like a
cissy so just followed his brother’s example. Taylor and his mum knew
what he looked like naked so that never concerned him, but he was about
to be swimming with two girls. He was now very worried about whether
his mum had packed his swim things. He breathed a sigh of relief when
his mum said she’d picked up all he needed to swim at Harrington Lake
and continued chatting with the girls about the fun they were going to
have at Harrington Lake. Tyson really should have clarified with his
mum what she meant.

An English Teenager Abroad

Rod Meyer looks back to
his carefree days in a Michigan High School as a 15 year old sophomore
in the mid-1960s, where the swimming costume of choice for boys was
their birthday suit. In such days, they had no concerns if any girl or
woman saw them at the pool in their preferred costume. It was in August
that year when an English family moved in next door that he realised
not every boy was so casual in swim class, especially the 15 year old
son Tim.

A Best Friend Fully Revealed

Muldoon and his single mum lived on a local authority housing estate in
Birmingham. Every Friday night for the last four years his mum had to
work a late shift. Their neighbour, Mrs Richmond, had always kept an
eye on him on the night when his mum worked late, including giving him
his bath and getting him ready for bed. This was no hardship for Mrs
Richmond as he spent a lot of time round at her house. Chris and her
daughter, 12 year old Janice, had known each other since he and his mum
moved in next door eight years ago, and they had become best friends.
It was on the Friday night when Mr Richmond came home early from his
shift demanding his tea that saw a best friend fully revealed.

Siblings Abroad

Since leaving Finland 15
years earlier, Mrs Cooper had noticed the religious views of her
American husband had got more and more conservative. Coupled with the
religious school he had enrolled them in, she was worried about the
well-being of their two growing children: 13-year-old Peter, and
12-year-old Ruth. She was delighted when her sister invited them all
over to stay at the end of May in her traditional lodge near Kittila in
the Lapland region of Finland with her twin boys Lukas and Mikael, who
were Ruth’s age, and their sister Christa, who was 10. This would be
the chance for her children to experience the very different Finnish
culture of her youth. Her husband would be away on a church conference
and she was working too, but she had persuaded Mr Cooper that they were
mature enough to fly on their own, especially as airlines always take
care of unaccompanied children. This was Peter and Ruth’s first trip
abroad and they were so excited. As she kissed them goodbye and put
them in the care of the flight attendant at New York’s JFK Airport, she
reminded them to act like Finnish children and immerse themselves fully
in their cousin’s culture.

Visiting Aunt Maggy

cottage right beside the sea. His Uncle Marek is Polish and First
Officer on a cruise ship currently in the Mediterranean, so there would
be just aunt Maggy, 14-year-old cousin Natalia, her 12-year-old sister
Marta, and her brother Yakob, who is 7. Brett was looking forward to a
swim from their private beach, but things didn’t go as he planned.

An Evacuee's Tale

It is September 1939 and
like thousands of wartime children, we find 13-year-old Edward Anderson
and his best friend Robert Kemp, together with their classmates
Jennifer Garland and her twin sister Dawn, being evacuated from their
homes in London. They are heading for a quiet fishing village in the
English West Country where they will avoid the anticipated German
bombing of Britain’s capital city. The boys are billeted in the cottage
of Mrs Dalby and her three daughters Elizabeth 14, Gloria 12, and Faith
8, while the girls stay with her neighbour Mrs Bentley, and her
daughters, Rebecca 13 and Samantha 9. They find this rural harbour a
very different place from the poorest part of East London where they
have spent all their lives.

Janet's Classmate

Fraser was an only child who was shy and sensitive. When his mother
found she had to go away at very short notice for a few days mid-week,
she arranged for a near neighbour's 19-year-old daughter, Carrie
Robinson, to stay with her son to act as sitter. Carrie’s mother
decided to use the opportunity to visit her sister, and Mrs Fraser
agreed Carrie could bring her little sister Julie to stay too and look
after both kids. Julie was a classmate of Bradley, and he thought she
was so pretty, although he had never plucked up the courage to speak to
her. He was secretly thrilled that he would have a chance to get to
know Julie, but there were to be several bumps along the way.

Jackson's Sleepover

friend Vicky Crawley had invited her to stay for the weekend while her
twin brother Jackson was having a sleepover with their friends Leo,
Ethan and Miles. They all knew each other as they were in the same year
7 class at St John's School. After getting out of school that hot
Friday afternoon they had a boisterous kickabout in the park, so the
six kids arrived back all mucky and sweaty. Mrs. Crawley ordered the
boys upstairs so she could give them a bath to make sure they were
properly clean before they sat down for tea in her house. It was
shortly thereafter that things took on an unexpected turn for the girls.

Summer Camp Blues

and his 10-year-old sister Ellie, together with their best friends
Gareth Burrows and his sister Lily, were so excited to be going to the
Diamond Jubilee Anniversary Summer Camp at Crystal Lake. The kids
hadn’t been to a summer camp before and were really looking forward to
this first time away without their parents. It had been a special treat
from the grandparents, Kay and Bob Hawkins, who were at that very first
Crystal Lake camp 60 years earlier. Kay had been a junior camp
counsellor and Bob had been in her hut. Recalling the rules for boys in
a 1950s summer camp, they bemoaned this modern vogue for respecting
boys’ modesty. Bob and Kay chuckled when they found out this
anniversary camp was to have a special historical theme. Zack and
Ellie’s parents agreed with the grandparents to keep that bit as a
surprise for when the kids got there.

Something's Not Right

annual physicals at St Barnabus School. Young Erica Anderson wanted to
be a nurse when she grew up, so matron had asked her to help. She was
looking forward to Monday morning when year 11 boys had their
physicals, as she would be seeing lots of naked boys, including her
older brother Julian. After teasing him on Sunday evening, she had a
good night’s sleep to be bright and fresh for all the fun. She woke up
and looked round. Something’s not right...

into her own hands, enlisting Georgie to help.

Jack's First Trip Abroad

Mrs Owen was very
worried about her 12-year-old son Jack’s excessive modesty. For the
last three years he would not let her bath him and always shut his
bedroom door when changing. Jack had known that his best friend George
Roberts had very enjoyable annual holidays with his family in the south
of France, and Mrs Roberts suggested to Mrs Owen that she lets George
invite Jack to join him, his sister Ruth and her best friend Olive, on
their holiday next month. This would be Jack’s first trip abroad, but
what he did not know was that the Roberts family holidayed at a nudist
beach. George’s mum had told the kids never to mention the nudist part
as some people could be funny about the thought of naked children. Mrs
Roberts knew that she and the girls would soon be able to change Jack’s
attitude.

The Old Pool At St Luke's School

The first day back at St
Luke’s School and a flooded playing field gave a big problem to sort
out for the two games teachers, Mr Dawson and Miss Jones. They had to
arrange alternatives for the students, especially for that afternoon’s
year 9 sports lesson only a few hours away. Miss Jones decided on some
still life art in the gym for her girls, but Mr Dawson got the
groundsmen to recommission the old open air swimming pool for his boys.
As they will not have brought the right kit for water activities, he
comes up with the simplest of solutions.

Bath
Time for Martin

Martin had just become a
teenager and had his best friend Paul sleeping over. His 9 year old
sister Debbie had her friend Lucy staying too. Lucy didn’t like Martin
and was always mean to him, so he tried to keep out of her way whenever
she was over. His mum was away on business for the weekend and they
were all being looked after by Lisa, the 16 year old babysitter. Sunday
evening the boys were in the den watching TV when Lisa came in. She
told Martin that his mother wanted both boys to have a proper bath and
they were to go and get undressed as she would be up in a minute.
Martin was horrified Lisa would see him naked, but she was his elder so
he could say nothing. As the boys left the room they bumped into the
young girls. Martin thought things could not get worse, but then Lisa
asked Debbie and Lucy if they could spare the time to give her a hand...
